Children Hold Bake Sale to Benefit Friends Of The Animals Foundation

Friends Of The Animals Foundation will hold two simultaneous bake sales at Hotwire Coffeehouse, 4410 California Ave SW and Next to Nature, 4543 California Ave SW, on Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fundraiser aims to raise enough money to purchase new cages for the organization. Lisa Broadstone, a West Seattle 12-year-old, conceptualized the sale.

Miss Broadstone says, “The great thing about this sale is that kids are running it. I’m contacting my friends to bake and to volunteer on the day of the sale. We will be setting up the booths, pricing, packaging and cashiering. It is going to be a fun time and
we believe, very successful.”

FAF Director Judith Davis explains, “The kids are baking everything: Cookies, magic bars, gourmet Rice Krispy treats, homemade breads, pies and more!”

The charity is still seeking volunteers of all ages for the sale.

“We would love more involvement from the public. We hope this year’s proceeds will help us to break last year’s adoption records—over 300 homes found for homeless kittens and cats,” says volunteer Teri Ensley.

Friends Of The Animals Foundation To Hold Kitten Shower

The Friends of the Animals Foundation will hold a Kitten Shower, from 12 to 3 p.m., on Saturday, July 17th at Next to Nature Pet Supply at 550 Main Street in Edmonds The event will coincide with the Edmonds Farmers’ Market.

The shelter has planned the whimsical event to be similar a human baby shower, with refreshments served. Adult cats and many of the kittens in attendance will be available for adoption at the shower, which coincides with kitten season.  During kitten season, the shelter takes in dozens of mother cats with kittens, putting a tremendous strain on shelter resources and foster homes. The season typically runs from May to November, with most litters born in early spring or midsummer.

“The public is invited to our light-hearted event. It is a great opportunity to meet the kittens and make a difference in their lives by donating a gift from the kitten wish list,” says Judith Davis, Friends of the Animals Foundation Executive Director.

Items on the wish list include: canned or dry kitten food (including Innova, Sensible Choice, Solid Gold and Heathwise), kitten milk replacement (KMR, Just Born), non-clumping litter, kitten toys, baby blankets, cleaning products including bleach and paper towels.
